“FREEDOM” in the Body of Christ
I’ve really enjoyed our Men’s Monday night study group. We’re just wrapping up with Romans and here are some “thoughts to think” after finishing chapter 14.
As Christians, we all have different views and interpretations on certain matters, leading to various opinions and convictions. This can create a challenge when it comes to working together in harmony within the body of Christ.
On one end of the spectrum, we have the Christian who values their direct accountability to God and ignores the opinions of others. They relish in their freedom and let the chips fall where they may, even if it offends others. On the other end of the spectrum, we have the sensitive saint who values their position in the body of Christ and
seeks to avoid violating anyone’s convictions. They bend over backwards to maintain unity, even if it means sacrificing their own personal convictions.
It is essential to recognize that neither extreme is suitable for healthy and productive relationships within the body of Christ.
Instead, as Christians, we are called to respect each other and honor and support the efforts of others in their own godliness. We must never try to force our convictions onto other believers, especially when it comes to debatable matters. Rather, we should work together to do all things to the glory of God, embracing our differences and celebrating the unique perspectives that each individual brings to the table.
The gospel calls us to take the more challenging path of relating to one another harmoniously in the midst of our differences. We are called to be slow to judge in less defined areas and, at times, we must refuse to act as judge altogether. Jesus teaches us to be slow to take offense and always ready for reconciliation.
Lastly, as Christians, we are called to embrace our differences and work together to honor and glorify God. We should strive to build unity within the body of Christ while also recognizing that we may have differing opinions and convictions on certain matters. By doing so, we can create a community that truly reflects the love and grace of God.
